Our internal medicine providers and physicians are your trusted health experts for adult primary care, whether you’re due for a checkup, managing a chronic condition or experiencing new symptoms. We get to know you, your concerns and your goals to help your health be the best it can be.

What is internal medicine?

Internal medicine providers specialize in comprehensive care for adults, ages 18 and older. They treat a wide variety of conditions and are specially trained in prevention, diagnosis and treatment of chronic and complex health conditions. They are skilled at creating individual care plans based on your needs and medical history.

As primary care providers, they are go-to medical experts who collaborate with other specialists and make referrals when needed to ensure you get the best care possible.

Some of the conditions they treat include high blood pressure and cholesterol, heart and vascular disease, infectious diseases, gastrointestinal issues and metabolic conditions.

Wellness visits
It’s important to see your provider once a year for a checkup to maintain your long-term health and wellness. During this visit, your provider will assess your overall health, discuss current treatment plans and help identify any potential health risks early. Your provider will check your vital signs, such as blood pressure, review and discuss preventive screenings, and order any needed lab tests to screen for conditions like high cholesterol or diabetes. Wellness visits are covered by most insurance plans.

Office visits
Throughout the year, schedule office visits when you need to see your provider for any new or ongoing health concerns, such as high blood pressure, allergies or urinary tract infections (UTIs). Your provider can assess, diagnose and create a treatment plan to help you get well or manage a chronic health condition. You can schedule these visits as often as you need them and your provider may be able to see you the same day.

Many of our internists offer comprehensive care for women ages 18 and older. Our women’s health specialists treat common and complex conditions, such as heart disease, osteoporosis, polycystic ovary syndrome and metabolic disorders.

Your preventive care experts

Preventive care helps detect health issues early, even before symptoms appear, and when treatment is most effective.

Your provider will help you decide when to get screened to learn about your risk for certain health conditions, such as breast or colorectal cancer. The recommended timeline for some preventive screenings can change based on your medical history and your family’s predispositions.

Your provider may also recommend genetic testing. Our internal medicine providers collaborate with genetic counselors to create treatment plans informed by family history, medical history and genomics. Your provider can coordinate testing and explain what the results mean for your health.

What is the difference between internal medicine and family medicine?

Internists and family medicine physicians are both primary care providers who focus on long-term health, overall wellness and disease prevention.

Internal medicine providers specialize in medical care for adults. By partnering with an internist, you can see a specialist for everyday care and chronic condition management.

Family medicine providers care for children and adults. By partnering with a family medicine provider, your whole family can see the same provider for care.
