Leading Pediatric Kidney Care
At Sanford Children’s, your child will receive up-to-date and comprehensive kidney care from a team of expert pediatric nephrologists. We treat patients with kidney disorders from newborns to young adults.
For physicians: Refer a patient to Sanford Health.
We offer pediatric dialysis for our young patients suffering from chronic or acute kidney failure. Dialysis filters the blood and removes waste when a child’s kidneys can’t do these functions itself. Our nephrologists and nurses are specially trained in the complexities of pediatric dialysis.
There are two types of dialysis. Talk to your child’s care team to decide which option is right for your child.
-
Hemodialysis dialysis uses a machine to filter your child’s blood and remove toxins and substances normally cleared by the kidneys.
-
Peritoneal dialysis attaches a catheter to tissue in the abdomen to remove excess fluid and get rid of waste.
Turn to Sanford Children’s Nephrology for comprehensive care. Our specialists coordinate with your child’s primary care physician to provide high-quality care. You’ll partner with a pediatric health team that will communicate and work together to keep you and your family healthy.
Pediatric Nephrology Disorders
Your child’s kidneys play a vital role by removing waste products from the bloodstream. They also keep salt in balance in the blood and make a hormone that helps form red blood cells.
Kidney diseases can cause short-term or permanent damage to the kidneys. These diseases and their symptoms include:
-
Blood in the urine
-
Chronic and acute kidney failure
-
Chronic urinary tract infections
-
Hypertension (high blood pressure)
-
Kidney stones
-
Loss of protein in the urine
If there is an issue with your child’s kidneys, see a pediatric nephrologist for specialized kidney care. Our experts can diagnose and treat kidney disorders to reverse or prevent kidney damage in children. Find a location or doctor near you to schedule an appointment today.
