Based on the Injoy Understanding Birth curriculum, this interactive class discusses what to expect during the birth experience and considerations to be aware of when everything doesn't go as planned. The goal of the course is to help new parents leave the course feeling confident to make informed decisions and empowered during their birth experience.
Topics include a review of physical changes necessary for birth, discussing the stages of labor and how to identify when you are in labor, viewing videos of birth stories, practicing various comfort techniques and relaxation skills for labor including breathing, massage, active imagery and focusing, hydrotherapy and positioning. This class also discuss different medical interventions and pain management options to be informed on before going into labor, what to expect if a cesarean is needed, and physicals changes to expect the first few hours and days after delivery. Participants will have an opportunity to apply the information learned to creating their own birth plan. This class is ideal for first-time parents.
