Cardiology As the most comprehensive and highly trained pediatric cardiology team in the area, Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic offers patients complete and thorough evaluations and treatment. Dr. William Waltz specializes in transthoracic and transesophageal echocardiography. Dr. Theresa Stamato is the only pediatric-trained interventional cardiologist in the region with the ability to diagnose and treat heart conditions through cardiac catheterizations. Child Abuse & Neglect Critical Care The Pediatric Critical Care Service offers intensive care management of critically ill pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Patients admitted to the PICU range in age from a few days old to young adults. Specially trained pediatric intensive care physicians work with the childs primary physician as well as other pediatric specialists to provide the best care available for the critically ill pediatric patient. Patients cared for in the PICU have a wide variety of medical conditions such as respiratory problems, trauma, surgical procedures, cardiac disease and oncology issues. The PICU provides a team approach to the treatment of the critically ill child and includes other ancillary staff such as respiratory therapy, child life, nutritionists, speech therapy and physical therapy. In addition, the pediatric intensive care physicians provide sedation for infants and children undergoing radiology tests and painful procedures. This service is provided not only for children who are patients in the hospital but also for those children who are having the tests done as outpatients. Developmental Developmental services at Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic includes a pediatric-trained developmental physician, nurse practitioner and other medical professionals who treat children with developmental problems, ADHD and learning disabilities. Endocrinology Endocrinology services at Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic treats a variety of endocrine and metabolic diseases and disorders. Children with diabetes are treated by a multidisciplinary team that includes a certified diabetes nurse educator, dietician and social worker. Gastroenterology Pediatric gastroenterology sees children with intestinal, liver or nutritional difficulties. Cystic Fibrosis Clinic The South Dakota Cystic Fibrosis Center at Sanford Childrens Specialty Clinic takes a multidisciplinary approach to the care of children and adults with Cystic Fibrosis. The Center consists of numerous specialists who work together to provide care for each patient. The interdisciplinary team of pediatric trained pulmonologists, nurses, respiratory therapists, social workers and dieticians forms the core of our center and meets regularly to assess the clinical, educational and psychosocial needs of each family and to plan and evaluate care provided. The Center also participates with twelve other centers from across the nation in a National Learning Collaborative project designed to identify "best practices" in Cystic Fibrosis care and develop strategies to rapidly disseminate them to all care centers.
