Sanford Childrens offers intensive care management of critically ill pediatric patients in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) located within Sanford Childrens Hospital. Patients admitted to the PICU range in age from a few days old to young adults. Specially trained pediatric intensive care physicians known as pediatric intensivists work with the childs primary physician as well as other pediatric specialists to provide the best care available for the critically ill pediatric patient. Patients cared for in the PICU have a wide variety of medical conditions such as respiratory problems, trauma, surgical procedures, cardiac disease and oncology issues. The PICU provides a team approach to the treatment of the critically ill child and includes other ancillary staff such as respiratory therapy, child life, nutritionists, speech therapy and physical therapy. With three full-time Fellowship Trained and Board Certified Pediatric Intensivists on staff, Sanford Childrens provides access to a specially trained pediatric intensive care physician 24/7. Our experienced team of critical care physicians includes Joseph Segeleon, MD; Wyc Cheatham, MD; and Didima Mon-Sprehe, MD. This team also serves as medical directors for our Pediatric Transport Team. To learn more about our Critical Care Program, please call 1-800-850-0064. |
