Children's Oncology Group

Department Physicians

Because childhood cancer is relatively rare, it is important to seek treatment at a specialized cancer program that is familiar in the appropriate treatment of children with cancer. We recognize this at Sanford Children’s. As such, our Pediatric Oncology Program is the only program in the state that is a member of the Children’s Oncology Group (COG). The Children’s Oncology Group’s (COG) mission is to cure and prevent childhood and adolescent cancer through scientific discovery and compassionate care.

Through National Cancer Institute-sponsored Children's Oncology Group, the Pediatric Oncology Program at Sanford Children’s Specialty Clinic participates in specially designed and monitored research studies made only available to member programs. These studies help develop cutting-edge treatments and research for long-term childhood cancer survival. Sanford Children’s Pediatric Oncologist Michael Sprehe, MD, MPH works closely with COG in providing the latest treatment methods to our young patients.
