Landon

Our four-year old son Landon has suffered with a condition called eosinophiliac esophagitis for the past 2 years. We have tried so many approaches with such frustration that he would seem to get better and then start throwing up again.

We went to see Dr. Doubledee at Sanford Children’s Specialty Clinic, and he tried the approach of prednisone. While it was difficult to see him sick and see his personality change on prednisone, it did make a difference. He is better, and we pray that it does not come back again. We need to keep the foods he is allergic to away from him.

Dr. Doubledee and his nurse, Janice, were so unbelievably kind and never made me feel that any question was too small. The care that we received from the hospital was wonderful. Every nurse and doctor was kind beyond words and comforting. Two things that really stuck out in our minds when we went in for Landon’s EGD to have biopsies:

  1. They have a child life specialist who comes to your child’s room and has toys and games and tells the child what will be happening in very elementary terms and takes any nervous energy and turns it into positive play. Both the child and parent are so caught up in her and her toys it takes our mind off of what is truly happening.
  2. The biggest surprise and the most pleasant was when it came time to take Landon to the room to have his procedure, they let me go with him. They let me sit on the gurney for the ride down the hallway, and they wheeled me right in there. WOW! How much easier that was than having a child taken from my arms and screaming and scared.

The doctors and nurses were superb and I have told ALL of them. Keep up the GREAT work!
